Answer engine optimization is the discipline of being the source an AI assistant cites when a buyer asks a question in your category. It is not a replacement for search engine optimization; it is what happens to SEO when the results page becomes a paragraph instead of ten blue links.

Our framework starts with the questions, not the keywords. We interview sales and support teams to collect the forty questions buyers actually ask before they convert, then test how today’s assistants answer each one — and whose content they cite when they do.

Next comes structure. Assistants reward pages that answer a question in the first two sentences, support it with specific numbers, and mark it up with clean schema. We rebuild cornerstone pages so a model can lift an accurate answer without guessing, and so a human who clicks through finds the depth to keep reading.

Measurement is where most programs fail. We track citation share across assistants weekly, tag referral traffic from AI surfaces separately, and connect both to pipeline in the CRM. When a client’s CFO asks what AEO is worth, the answer is a dashboard, not a slide.

Being the footnote is no longer enough. The goal is to be the answer.
